“Difficulty shows what men are. Therefore when a difficulty falls upon you, remember that God, like a trainer of wrestlers, has matched you with a rough young man. Why? So that you may become an Olympic conqueror; but it is not accomplished without sweat.”
― Epictetus, Discourses, Books 1–2
For the few who know, this has been an interesting year for me thus far. Not taking into account my fathers death — may he rest in peace. It doesn’t help when my empathy, a skill, has caused me more grief than I can count. I know that resonates to many, if not everyone.
I took some time off here and there in an attempt to renew myself. More recently, I decided to head out to the water and mountains. I have never been this high before, literally and figuratively. Also, no cell signal or wifi. Which, incidentally, was a blessing.
The idea was to take it slow with meditation, fasting, and prayer. Without a doubt, an experience of reflection that I would recommend to everyone.
“Just imagine becoming the way you used to be as a very young child, before you understood the meaning of any word, before opinions took over your mind… [Be] free.”
– Miguel Angel Ruiz
The night sky reminded me how insignificant one is in the universe, and how unreachable it seems. Humbling. Yet, based on this site, http://www.howmanypeopleareinspacerightnow.com/, it looks like there are currently 6 astronauts in space! Right this moment!
“The greater the difficulty, the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests. ”
This is not a post about me sharing what I’m going through. Rather, I hope this is an inspirational one for those who are going through even tougher times in their lives. More likely than anything, even more difficult than I can even imagine.
I want you to know that, yeah, it sucks sometimes. I’m with you. But I also would like you to know that it’s only momentarily. How do I know? Like every human in history that faced an advisory or challenge of sorts, whether it’s physical, mental, spiritual or scientific, they have conquered it. Knowingly that another one will be coming down the road.
Just like the 6 people in space, right now. We have in us the inherit determination unlike any being that I know of. A being that will risk leaving home earth, the only place of life, that we know of, to the unknown of space! Even risking coming back. Why? Because there is always an answer. There is always a way. And damn it, You will find a way.
Keep reminding yourself that, most likely than not, there are other things you need to worry about in which you are yet to be aware of.
Therefore, for the sake of You, and for the pursuit of You, you need to conquer You.
“When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.”
― Patrick Overton, The leaning tree: [poems]
